• What distinguishes the Seifrizii palm from other palms?
The Chamaedorea Seifrizii, sometimes called the Reed palm, is a cluster type palm with clumps of graceful green fronds held upright by strong bamboo-like stalks which can grow to as tall as twelve feet. The reed-like stems and feathery green leaves remind one of bamboo as a decorative motif.

What are the best lighting conditions for my Bernecker Seifrizii palm?
Because our Chamaedorea Seifrizii palm has been carefully nurtured and shade-acclimated for interior usage, it will thrive in most locations. Any lighted area (natural or artificial) should be adequate. Care should be taken to avoid both direct sunlight and low light areas such as dark corners. The palm's natural erects and symmetry can be maintained by revolving its container from time to time.

What's the best soil to use?
Good soil for palms is similar to a forest topsoil. It should be light and porous with generous amounts of humus, peat, or leaf mold. It should provide good drainage and good aeration. You should also lightly fertilize your palm three or four times a year. Apply on the soil away from the stems.

How often should I water my Seifrizii?
That depends on the type and size of container and, to a large extent, on the palm's location. Water thoroughly, allowing the soil to become nearly dry between waterings. The Seifrizii palm, as most Chamaedorea, will stand considerable neglect in watering. However, water left standing in a saucer will, with certainty, damage the plant.

Should I become concerned if a few of the leaves turn brown?
No. When palm leaves become old, a natural process, they become dry, lose their green color, sag or break at the stem. Three to six leaves per stem is normal for the Seifrizii. Simply cut off old unsightly leaves, but be careful not to remove the leaf sheath from the stern until it is dry and easy to loosen.

What about pests and disease?
Among the few pests that may afflict household palms are mites, mealy bugs, nematodes and scale. Lose no time in identification and treatment if mites are suspected. Pests other than mites should also be controlled but will not usually disfigure or cause mahor damage to the palm. Seifrizii are usually easy to maintain disease free. However, excessive watering and/or poor soil drainage can induce root and stem diseases such as Pythium, Phytophthora, or Rhizoctonia.

What's the best temperature for maintaining my Seifrizii?
As previously mentioned, the Bernecker Seifrizii will do best in a shady environment. Seifrizii are hardy palm, however, and can often withstand temperatures as low as freezing (32 degrees F.). Frost may damage some leaves as may extended periods of low humidity, particularly if the soil is nearly dry.

Why are Seifrizii palms a good value?
Prices of Seifrizii palms may seem higher in comparison to some other foliage plants, but when their growth rate, longer life, and durability is taken into account, they are a good investment. With reasonable care, Seifrizii will give beauty and satisfaction for many years.
