PLAYMOBIL TOYS Signs on Bernecker's Nursery to Promote and Distribute Their New Line of Decorative Planters - LECHUZA

Goulds Florida –“Wow Dad, look at these cool planters” were the words out of Carl Fennell’s mouth as he entered the PLAYMOBIL FUN PARK in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on a lazy Sunday afternoon last August. Carl, his siblings Philip and Risa, mom Susan and father Tom Fennell were caught by surprise as they viewed the promotional display featuring the benefits of the Toy company’s newest product line, LECHUZA.

Introduced a year earlier in Europe and the United States, LECHUZA combines the latest European technology in sub-irrigation with a clean modern design to produce a functional self watering container that is also beautiful. It was “love at first sight” as Tom Fennell (Bernecker’s Director of Marketing) viewed this smart, sexy new line of planters. What started out as a family outing to buy a few toys for Risa’s doll house would soon become a global business venture for these two industry leaders.

Bernecker’s Nursery, a pioneer in the interior plant industry, was on the look out for a better sub-irrigation system to offer their customers. Playmobil Toys founder Horst Brandstaetter was looking to develop a sub-irrigation system for use with plants grown in soil. He wanted to keep his personal plant collection alive and thriving when he was away from home. Not finding an adequate hydroponic system available in Europe to meet his needs, Horst approached Dr. Peter Reimherr, the Executive Director of the Institute of Wine Cultivation and Gardening at Veitshoechheim Germany. He took on the development, design, and testing of a new system. After several years the new product line LECHUZA was ready. With the investment of over 4 million dollars, a new state of the art factory was built to produce these exceptional planters.

LECHUZA planters come in 3 different selections…. Classico, Quadro, and Cubico, stylish modern designs with the appearance of ceramics and the benefits of plastic. And PLAYMOBIL knows plastics! LECHUZA planters are lightweight, unbreakable, and colorfast. Now available with inset coasters, they’re also exceptionally mobile. Add to this the optional sub-irrigation system with or without drainage, and interiorscapers now have a smart functional system for either inside or outside use. All three planters can be used alone (without the sub-irrigation insert) as any other decorative container would be used. The planters are offered in up to 8 different sizes ranging from 8.5 inch diameter to 28 inches, with up to nine different color options.
